(*)Special film

As a testament to the work that SMCF supporters and JeCCDO have helped to achieve over the past 25 years, we are pleased to announce that a film production team is currently preparing a documentary of our work, 25 years on.

Following an eye opening, ten day trip to Ethiopia, the film team consisting of Stephen Pomeroy, chief executive of marketing communications agency, The Remarkable Group and two young filmmakers, Nic Yeeles and Ehsan Bhatti from Remarkable’s in house video production unit Reko, will launch the film at an event to be held on July 13 in London. More details coming soon.

The Twenty5 campaign in the news

Twenty five years ago SMCF and its partner set up orphanages for children whose parents had died in the famine. Click here to read an article in Marie Claire magazine following the lives of some of those orphans 25 years on.

November 2009

A message from The Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Reverend Dr Rowan Williams

… I have been impressed and moved to hear of your work in partnership with the poorest peoples in Ethiopia, developing new and creative ways of assisting orphans and other vulnerable children in their own communities. I would like to commend this appeal, through which St Matthew’s Children’s Fund invites individuals and groups in the UK to share in their admirable work. Support to this appeal, enabling high quality and low-cost activity, will help to bring hope and express solidarity with some of the poorest communities in the world.

A message of support from The Archbishop of York, The Most Reverend Dr John Sentamu

‘It is 25 years since Michael Buerk’s groundbreaking reports form Ethiopia which drew the attention of a generation to the devastation caused by the famine of 1984. Since that time the work of organisations like the St Matthew’s Children’s Fund has done much to alleviate the poverty and suffering in this proud country.

Please support the 25th anniversary appeal for SMCF Ethiopia and their work in giving children a family, an education and the skills to earn their living in Ethiopia.’
